About The Position

The City of Huntsville’s Municipal Court department is seeking qualified applicants to fill our Magistrate position(s). This is advanced, quasi-legal work in the issuing and recording of arrest warrants, complaints and affidavits, granting of bail, and receiving pleas of guilty in minor misdemeanor cases. Work involves interviewing citizens with complaints and hearing charges brought by law enforcement officials, determining the existence of probable cause, the proper charge and issuing the appropriate complaints, affidavit and/or warrant.

Requirements

High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must meet the qualifications to complete the "Application to be Appointed/Rescinded as a Magistrate/Warrant Clerk" upon hire/promotion
Elector (registered voter) of the State of Alabama (must obtain within 30 days of hire/promotion)
Valid Alabama driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire/promotion)
NCIC/ACJIC Certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire/promotion)
Notary Public (must obtain within 6 months of hire/promotion)
Certified Municipal Court Magistrate in the State of Alabama (must obtain within 11 months of hire/promotion)
