About The Position

Organization: Fusion Theatre Company Location: 708 1st St NW Albuquerque, NM 87102 An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST HAVE A WORK-STUDY AWARD Help research and acquire funding opportunities for operational and print costs of Horizon Review, a new local fine arts magazine under the umbrella of the nonprofit organization, FUSION–a local professional theatre and cultural & arts hub. In this position, you will research and apply for funding for the magazine. The position is designed as a mentorship, so extensive experience is not required, and training will be provided. A grant and proposal writer will research and compile options for funding, write proposals and applications, and perform outreach to organizations. Horizon Review’s mission is to encapsulate local stories, elevate quality art, and educate the rising generation of creative professionals. We are committed to providing opportunities for talent to thrive in our community. We will publish a print magazine annually, enriched by the talent of local artists and the professional assistance of UNM students and beginning professionals. We are dedicated to the pursuit of community building and recognition for local artists and professionals.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM
  • Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count)
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (if Work Study)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Independent time management skills
  • Strong copywriting and proof-reading skills
  • Willingness to work individually and as part of a group
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
  • Interest in learning about the roles and tasks related to grant and proposal writing
  • Tech savvy

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with grant and proposal writing (work or classes)
  • Previous experience with grant application processes
  • Preliminary knowledge of funding sources
  • Knowledge of different writing conventions and their applications
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Research funding possibilities and compile them into a formatted list
  • Create grant proposals and applications using a template and boilerplate language
  • Update the proposal templates and boilerplate language as needed
  • Keep records of the application specifics for each grant opportunity
  • Write applications for funding in a timely manner
  • Perform outreach to organizations for possible funding and sponsorship opportunities
  • Build relationships with funding agencies
  • Research award opportunities
  • Assist with additional magazine or marketing responsibilities as needed
