About The Position

Skagit Valley College (SVC) is seeking a Maestros Navigator to support and expand access to college pathways leading to teaching professions for high school students. This position is stationed at Skagit Valley College (SVC), Mount Vernon Campus, and serves incoming students from local school districts such as Burlington-Edison School District (BESD) and Mount Vernon School District (MVSD) to transition into future teacher development programs. This position plays a key role in promoting college access through recruitment and enrollment. Responsible for proactive, individualized involvement in driving students' success, this position will contribute to student retention and completion strategies in collaboration with the student, their family, and high school partners. The Maestros Navigator delivers outreach, recruitment, advising, and retention activities to support the college's strategic goal of increasing enrollment and success. Primary duties include facilitating program information sessions, college application sessions, supporting students through the enrollment process, providing technical assistance, and general advising. This position also provides ongoing retention support each quarter. This position is a 100% full-time, exempt position. The position may work onsite from either the Mount Vernon or Whidbey Island campus and includes regular travel to area high schools, SVC sites (such as San Juan), and community events. The role requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional split shifts. This position collaborates with various stakeholders within and throughout the community to improve access to college advising and clarity regarding pathways leading to college degrees in education. In particular, this position collaborates with Western Washington University to increase the diversity of teacher applicant pools from BESD and MVSD for teacher preparation programs. The Maestros Program Manager position is employed by Skagit Valley College and will require frequent travel to BESD, MVSD, and WWU. This role requires regular communication with students and families who speak Spanish; bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is essential.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree, equivalent education, or higher in Education, Communications, Human Services, Social Sciences, Student Development, or closely related field; and One (1) year of professional experience in the field; OR Three (3) years of responsible administrative experience in a related field.
Strong oral and written bilingual/multi-lingual communication skills in Spanish and English
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database management
Experience working with the Latinx Community and/or understanding of political, economic, and social issues affecting the Latinx population.

Master's degree in Education, Communications, Human Services, Social Sciences, Student Development, or related field
Experience advising students in educational programs
An understanding of the impact of teacher role models and a commitment to increasing Latinx representation in P-20 education
Understanding of the challenges facing the community college student population
Proven track record in developing, deploying, and evaluating student success and persistence strategies
Ability to collect, analyze, and report data to support program goals and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

Represent Skagit Valley College (SVC) at high school, college, community fairs, and outreach events
Attend meetings and events that promote SVC education programs to prospective students, families, high school partners, and community organizations
Communicate critical deadlines, enrollment processes, and program updates to high school partners, students, and families
Collaborate with Outreach & Recruitment, Counseling & Navigation, Financial Aid, and Enrollment Services to provide coordinated support for students
Monitor inbox and respond to inquiries
Act as a first point of contact to facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of students
Plan and implement information sessions, application sessions, classroom/school visits, campus events, and other activities focused on students and their families
Coordinate and deliver campus tours for prospective students
Participate in registration events as assigned
Provide general advising to prospective and current students regarding academic options, program requirements, and transition to college
Support students in understanding placement, course options, impacts of academic decisions, and how to maximize dual credit options
Refer students to appropriate support, including tutoring, financial aid, disability access services, career exploration, and other available resources
Conduct proactive outreach to support students’ academic progress and program completion
Engage in regular follow-up, contact, and tracking of students, data gathering and analysis, and reporting related to SVC recruitment, retention, and placement
Maintain and review accurate and detailed documentation and outcomes on SVC Maestros students using various tracking and database software
Review student course history and plan educational plans
Send students multi-channel communications, including e-mail and SMS text, using TargetX to support recruitment, enrollment, and engagement in education programs
Participate in targeted marketing campaigns and lead generation activities aimed at increasing participation in dual credit programs
Perform other special projects and related duties as assigned
