About The Position

Perform a variety of duties primarily pertaining to inspection of material samples checking for macro structural defects and conformance to macro structural acceptance standards. Maintain related records and reports. Prepare macro discs by surface grinding or hand abrasive belt grinding. Prepare appropriate etching solutions. Inspect for such defects such as pipe, excessive segregation, surface defects and others. Use acid solution or other corrosive solutions or agents to develop the characteristic of a suitable prepared specimen. Duties involve processing and inspection of a wide variety of grades and macro conditions for which complete photographic standards are not available, thus regarding considerable experience to properly evaluate. Request cutbacks and resample on material samples having unacceptable structure. Refer questionable structures to quality control metallurgist. Maintain macro inspection and inventory reports in established form. Responsible for receiving acid for bulk and tanks and the inspection of these tanks. Also, responsible for doing checks on acid strengths to ensure proper etching, and must measure and mix his own acids.

Requirements

  • Required to pass Respirator Protection screening
  • Required to pass In-dept vision screening
  • General high school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of standard macro characteristics and inspection process.
  • Use ordinary arithmetic including decimals and fractions.
  • Make simple use of tables, charts, and specifications.
  • Requires some specialized training to meet NDT certification requirements
