MANUAL MACHINIST Pell City, Alabama Shift: 2nd shift GENERAL DESCRIPTION We are looking for a Manual Machinist to operate various Milling Machines, Drill Presses and Lathes. Position reports to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Operate various Milling Machines, Drill Presses and Lathes
  • Knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers
  • Use of precision instruments such as micrometers
  • Ability to set up, adjust, and operate basic and specialized machine tools
  • Ability to align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Ability to select appropriate tools, machines, and materials
  • Ability to monitor feed and speed of machines
  • Ability to lay out, measure, and mark metal stock
  • Ability to study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information
  • Ability to observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose malfunctions
  • Ability to check work pieces for proper lubrication and cooling
  • Ability to clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment
  • Ability to confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel

Responsibilities

  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, vertical boring mill, horizontal boring mill.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
