Requirements

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, volume and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be able to interpret calipers and micrometers.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Minimum two years related experience or training.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly.
  • Verify dimension and alignment of assembly.
  • Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Maintain production records of parts and jobs machined as required by Department Manager.
  • Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work on–site, ability to work overtime.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, ability to deal respectfully with the public, customers, vendors, other employees, managers, and executive management.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to interchange with others in the department.
