About The Position

This position requires a person to perform set ups and operate CNC equipment to manufacture metal parts from raw material in a team based environment. Plans and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to interpret complicated drawings, program sheets, instructions, and process sheets.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Ability to perform diversified operations on numerical control machining centers.
  • Ability to perform a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
  • Ability to review setup sheets and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished workpiece.
  • Ability to attach fixtures, position and secure workpieces.
  • Ability to select and install cutting tools.
  • Ability to load control media and enter commands.
  • Ability to manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tools and start machines.
  • Ability to observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Ability to change cutting tools and workpiece locations.
  • Ability to perform inspection and gaging operations.
  • Ability to measure workpiece for conformance to specifications.
  • Ability to notify supervisor of discrepancies.
  • Ability to utilize override control to correct conditions.
  • Ability to adjust machine feed and speed and change cutters.
  • Ability to machine materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber.
  • Ability to clean machines, tooling, and parts.
  • Ability to perform machine maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets complicated drawings, program sheets, instructions, and process sheets to determine work to be done.
  • Read and understand blue prints.
  • Performs diversified operations on numerical control machining centers.
  • Performs a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
  • Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished workpiece.
  • Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures workpiece in fixture according to setup instructions.
  • Selects and installs cutting tools in machine spindle or magazine.
  • Loads control media, such as disk, tape, or punch card, in machine control console or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
  • Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Changes cutting tools and location of workpiece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
  • Performs a variety of inspection and gaging operations to insure maintenance of quality standards and specifications.
  • Measures workpiece for conformance to specifications.
  • Notifies supervisor of discrepancies.
  • Utilizes override control to correct conditions that are out of tolerance or operating unusually.
  • Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
  • Machines materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber.
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
  • Performs machine maintenance.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
