About The Position

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment for steel plants across the globe with a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America. This role requires a machinist with 1+ years of machining experience, both manual and CNC, with Vertical and Horizontal Lathe experience. The candidate must be able to work swing shifts (day and afternoon).

Requirements

1+ years of machining experience (manual and CNC).
Vertical and Horizontal Lathe experience.
Ability to swing shifts (day and afternoon).
Experience with using measuring devices such as Tape Measure, Inside/Outside Mics, Calipers, and Depth Mics.
Understanding of and ability to read blueprints.
Good math skills.
Ability to work with others and follow directions.
Excellent attendance.
Awareness of surroundings and safety of others.
Ability to report any and all unsafe conditions immediately.
Knowledge/understanding of hazards of the job assignment before starting.
Basic understanding of safety policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

Ability to operate a fork truck (training will be provided on site).
Ability to operate a crane safely (training will be provided on site).

Responsibilities

Perform set-ups and operations on various machines including CNC Horizontal Mills (Heidenhain Control), CNC Vertical Mills (Fanuc Control), CNC Vertical Lathe (Siemens Control), CNC Horizontal Lathe (Siemens Control), CNC Horizontal Lathe (Fanuc Control), Manual Vertical Mill (Bridgeport), Manual Vertical Lathe (6 Foot), Manual Horizontal Mill (Supermill), and Horizontal Lathe (Poreba).
Use measuring devices such as Tape Measure, Inside/Outside Mics, Calipers, and Depth Mics.
Understand and read blueprints.
Perform clean up.
Operate a fork truck (training will be provided on site).
Operate a crane safely (training will be provided on site), including lifting equipment safely, knowing disconnect switch locations, performing crane inspections before use, inspecting straps and chains before use, and checking rigging before performing a lift.
