About The Position

A Machinist operates equipment such as milling machines, revolving lathes, and drill presses to produce parts and tools for the industry. They must have a thorough knowledge of many kinds of machine tools, including the use of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. The Machinist must have the ability to review blueprints and specifications, and know the sequence of steps to follow in producing the part or tool. A machinist should have the ability to perform any mechanical task assigned, such as those tasks assigned to a Journeyman Mechanic. This job description is not meant to be all-inclusive, and will include other reasonable work expectations as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum 3 years heavy industrial machinist experience; OR, Completion of a formal technical education/degree from an accredited program for Machinist or completion of a formal accredited apprenticeship program for Machinist, with at least 6000 hours of on the job training.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to pass the PPL Skilled Trades Testing/EEI MASS testing.
  • Ability to pass a practical examination to demonstrate skills and proficiency as a machinist (this process could take up to 12 hours to complete).

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as milling machines, revolving lathes, and drill presses to produce parts and tools.
  • Utilize computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines.
  • Review blueprints and specifications to determine the sequence of steps for production.
  • Perform any mechanical task assigned, similar to a Journeyman Mechanic.
  • Use many different kinds of tools and machine tools.
  • Read and use technical manuals to troubleshoot and overhaul equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problems with systems and equipment.
  • Read blueprints and drawings to fabricate or repair equipment, tools, and/or parts.
  • Use precision tools.
  • Document completed work to maintain accurate equipment history and records of machined parts/tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including checking equipment, adding/changing oil, and greasing with lubricants.
  • Clean ditches, unplug pipes, and perform pipefitting.
  • Repair miscellaneous pumps and equipment.
  • Perform sandblasting, painting, and cleaning of scrubbers.
  • Repack pumps, sootblowers, valves, and agitators.
  • Operate equipment such as dump trucks, bobcat loaders, hoists, and backhoes.
  • Perform general cleanup tasks.
  • Maintain regular attendance and diligent work habits.
