About The Position

We are seeking a machinist for our growing machine shop. This year will be double last year. The machine shop is part of J&A Industries, a division of Serrmi, LLC. J&A is recognized by major railroads because of the quality and breadth of products we manufacture. We ship products across the US and into Canadian and Mexico. We’ve purchased additional mills & lathes and need skilled machinists to fulfill increasing customer orders. The ideal candidate should possess at least 3 years machining experience. We will consider all machining experience. J&A can be more than just another job! We’re a third-generation family business and pride ourselves on not being like corporate America. Requirements

  • OSHA10 Safety Certification.
  • Other Safety Certifications required for specific tasks and operations.
  • Attention to detail and initiative to be self-motivated and directed.
  • Ability to listen, follow directions and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to operate difference machines such as CNC and manual lathes and milling machines as well as punch presses and shears.
  • 5 years’ experience as a machinist
  • Interact in a professional manner with customers, co-workers and other trades.
  • Must have extensive working knowledge of current fabrication procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Mazak programing experience

Responsibilities

  • Attend daily safety briefings and always maintain safe working conditions.
  • Maintain condition, functionality and always use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments such as micrometers or Vernier calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders or punches.
  • Set up, adjust or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories or materials onto machines.
  • Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, or reports to determine material requirements or assembly instructions.
  • Communicate with supervisors to plan or review work activities or to resolve production problems.
  • Dispose of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
