About The Position

Wieland is a global leader in copper and copper alloy manufacturing, processing, and distribution. We provide a large product and service portfolio including power, automotive, ammunition, coinage, construction materials, refrigeration, electronics and many other industries. The machinist completes layouts for and performs difficult machining operations on replacement parts. Diagnoses and remedies machine problems; repairs, tears down and reassembles intricate mechanisms and machines; and installs, maintains, and repairs a wide variety of complicated machine tools. This role is located in Pine Hall, NC and will be fully on-site.

Requirements

  • Machinist certification and/or Associate’s Degree
  • Minimum 3 years’ machinist experience
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and information orally and in writing, in one on one and group situations, meetings, and conducting presentations.
  • Accepts and delegates high levels of responsibility for processes affecting the organization’s long-term welfare.
  • Deals effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Performs to a high level of self-discipline and ethics to protect the company’s interests.
  • Ability to read blueprints, work orders, engineering plans, material specifications, orthographic drawings and reference planes
  • Ability to judge and hold tight specifications.
  • Able to work from sample parts.
  • Identify and select proper type of metals for job.
  • In depth knowledge of national and international material-, drawing- and tolerance- standards
  • Commitment to high quality standards

Nice To Haves

  • Master Cam experience preferred – or ability to quickly learn it is a priority.
  • G-Code experience preferred – or ability to quickly learn it is a priority.
  • Waterjet cutting experience preferred – or ability to quickly learn it is a priority.
  • CMM and laser measuring experience preferred – or ability to learn it is a priority.

Responsibilities

  • Follows safe working procedures.
  • Manages the activities of his/her assigned projects.
  • Plans and estimates machine shop activities.
  • Creates layouts for and performs machine operations with CNC-based machining equipment.
  • Performs mechanical alignment using precision tools.
  • Performs benchwork.
  • Performs tool grinding operations.
  • Maintains required records and documentation.
  • Must know when and who to ask for help.
  • CNC programming and modifying programs.
  • Plans stock inventory and requirements.
  • Makes recommendations to the Manager to create, modify, and/or upgrade machinery and support equipment.
  • Works in conjunction with the Manager in planning work and determining techniques to be used.
  • Devotes less than 20% of time to activities other than those described above.
