About The Position

The Machinist sets up and operates a conventional manual lathe using Lean and 5S methodologies to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. The role creates customer-specific equipment parts from drawings and written instructions, working to precision and close tolerances. The Machinist selects appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds; inspects finished parts and records results; and maintains a clean, organized work area. Attendance during the regularly scheduled shift is essential, including arriving on time and being ready to work at the start of the shift. Mandatory overtime may be required when necessary.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, and apply basic geometry concepts.
Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance).
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Windows Operating System computer skills.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and handle concrete variables in situations with limited standardization, and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
Ability to stand, walk, carry up to 50 lbs., push/pull, climb, walk up stairs, crouch, and communicate through speaking and hearing.

Nice To Haves

Three or more years of experience in a manufacturing or job shop environment preferred.
Technical School Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

Identify the types and sizes of steel needed for each job, primarily HRS and CRS.
Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, work orders, and sample parts to determine finished-part dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Set up and operate a turning machine to turn, bore, thread, or face metal materials.
Create customer-specific equipment parts from drawings and written instructions with precision and close tolerances.
Use tape measures, 12-inch scales, micrometers, calipers, and other Imperial and Metric measuring devices.
Inspect finished parts and record results.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
Attend the regularly scheduled shift, arrive on time, and be ready to work at the start of the shift; work mandatory overtime when necessary.
