About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Machinist to join our Indianapolis manufacturing team. This position is responsible for machining precision components used in the manufacture and assembly of industrial bakery equipment. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on machining experience, can accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, and takes pride in producing quality parts to tight tolerances. This role requires a strong commitment to precision, quality, safety, productivity, and craftsmanship in a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of industrial machining experience
  • Experience operating manual and/or CNC mills and lathes
  • Ability to independently set up machining jobs and produce parts from engineering drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, dimensions, tolerances, and engineering specifications
  • Proficient with micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other precision measuring tools
  • Ability to consistently produce and verify parts to tight tolerances
  • Working knowledge of machining practices, cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and material characteristics
  • Ability to perform shop math, including fractions, decimals, ratios, and basic geometry
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to quality, safety, accuracy, and workmanship
  • Must provide basic hand tools
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain forklift certification
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a manufacturing team

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training in machining, CNC machining, or a related field
  • Experience machining components for industrial equipment or machinery
  • CNC setup, programming, or conversational programming experience
  • Experience working in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual & CNC machine tools, including mills and lathes. (Hurco)
  • Machine parts and components according to engineering drawings, specifications, dimensions, and tolerances
  • Determine appropriate machining methods, tooling, speeds, feeds, and setups to efficiently produce quality parts
  • Perform machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping, facing, and related operations
  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances
  • Produce components to tight dimensional tolerances and inspect work throughout the machining process
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining specifications
  • Set up workpieces, fixtures, cutting tools, and machine accessories
  • Deburr, clean, and finish machined components as required
  • Identify tooling, setup, dimensional, or material issues and make appropriate adjustments
  • Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy, finish, and conformance to specifications
  • Complete required production and quality documentation
  • Maintain machines, tooling, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition
  • Follow all required PPE, plant safety, and manufacturing procedures
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Assembly, and other team members to resolve machining or component issues
  • Identify opportunities to improve machining methods, setup time, part quality, and productivity
