About The Position

Corning is seeking a skilled Machinist to join their Sullivan Park Research & Development team. This role focuses on fabricating prototype parts, tools, and equipment to support cutting-edge technology development in an R&D machining environment. It is not a high-volume production role, emphasizing precision, creativity, and problem-solving to support new technologies and breakthrough ideas. The position offers the opportunity to work on unique projects with advanced equipment in a world-class development setting.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
One of the following: 4 years of applicable machine shop experience or military equivalent, Journeyman or Class “A” status, 2-year Machine Tool Technology degree, or Certificate in a relevant field with at least 1 year of experience.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and problem-solving ability.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Mastercam, SolidWorks, or NC programming software.
5-axis machining experience.
Experience with Haas, Mazak, Fanuc, or similar controls.
Willingness to train candidates with strong machining fundamentals but lacking 5-axis or programming experience.

Responsibilities

Fabricate and assemble prototype parts and equipment for research and development projects.
Set up and operate a variety of CNC and manual machines, including CNC Lathes, 3-axis and 5-axis CNC Mills, Wire EDM, Surface Grinders, Drill Presses, Manual Lathes, Manual Mills, and Straight Vertical Milling Machines.
Write, edit, and modify machine programs to meet design specifications and quality standards.
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment.
Troubleshoot machining and process issues.
Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment.
Work closely with designs, ideas, and prototype concepts to bring new technology to life.
