About The Position

This role involves operating, setting up, programming, and troubleshooting various types of machinery, including CNC and manual mills and lathes. The position requires adherence to safety protocols, proficiency in reading blueprints and using precision measuring instruments, and the ability to work with complex materials and high-tolerance parts. The company, Forged Solutions Group - Custom Alloy Division, specializes in manufacturing high-quality seamless and welded pipe and tube solutions, as well as custom fabrications for critical applications in aerospace, defense, and space industries. They are a Level 1 qualified U.S. Navy manufacturer for nuclear forgings and fittings and serve both government and commercial clients. The plant features large machines for heavy-duty work in a traditional manufacturing environment, which can be hot, cold, or dirty, but safety is prioritized.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience (Machinist 1)
  • 2-5 years of experience (Machinist 2)
  • 5+ years of experience (Machinist 3)
  • 7-10+ years of experience (Machinist 4)
  • Basic blueprint reading
  • Proficient in blueprint reading
  • Advanced CAD/CAM software proficiency
  • Expert-level knowledge of CNC machining
  • Proficient with CNC controllers
  • Ability to handle moderate-complexity setups
  • Complex manual/CNC machining
  • Advanced fixture design
  • Root-cause analysis of manufacturing issues
  • Use of measuring tools (calipers, micrometers)
  • Forklift experience
  • Following setup instructions
  • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) expertise
  • Ability to run multiple machines simultaneously

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate/technical training advantageous (Machinist 1)
  • May act as a team lead as needed (Machinist 3)
  • Journeyperson qualification or equivalent (Machinist 4)

Responsibilities

  • Tends machines (CNC or manual), loads/unloads parts, performs basic measurement, and maintains shop cleanliness.
  • Performs setups (CNC mills/lathes), makes minor programming adjustments, and conducts first-article inspection.
  • Performs independent setup and programming (CAM software/Mastercam) from blueprints.
  • Creates and designs fixtures/tooling, handles complex materials.
  • Develops new procedures for complex, high-tolerance parts.
  • Optimize production rates, reduce scrap, mentor junior machinists, assist with CAM programming, and ability to run multiple machines simultaneously.
  • Adherence to safety protocols.
  • Use of precision instruments (micrometers, calipers).
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Experience with mills, lathes, grinders, and/or CNC machines.
