About The Position

Compressor Turbine Services is looking for a Machinist to join their team! This role involves setting up and operating various manual machining equipment to fabricate, modify, and repair components for high-speed rotating equipment. The machinist will interpret technical drawings, perform precise measurements, and ensure parts meet strict quality standards. The position also includes basic machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and assisting with equipment disassembly and reassembly. This is a custom/low-volume job rather than high-production.

Requirements

  • Experience in the turbomachinery industry
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment
  • Possess own manual machinist tools

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes (horizontal and vertical), mills, VTLs/Bullards, drill presses, grinders, and other equipment.
  • Perform operations such as: turning, boring, facing, threading, milling, drilling, reaming, tapping, grooving, slotting, and grinding.
  • Select and install proper tooling, fixtures, attachments, and materials for each job.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, sketches, work scopes, and verbal instructions.
  • Perform shop calculations for dimensions, tooling, feeds/speeds, and part geometry.
  • Machine, modify, or fabricate new/replacement parts for rotating equipment components (e.g., shafts, sleeves, impellers, diaphragms, casings).
  • Work to close tolerances (often +/- 0.0005”) and high-quality standards for balance, fit, and performance in high-speed rotating applications.
  • Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, etc.) to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specs.
  • Document measurements, deviations, and quality records.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and cleaning on machines and tools.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make on-the-fly adjustments.
  • Assist with disassembly, repair, and reassembly of equipment when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Layout and plan complex jobs.
  • Handle rigging and material movement (forklifts, cranes).
  • Work on custom/low-volume or one-off repair jobs rather than high-production runs.
