About The Position

Strasburg Rail Road Company is hiring a team-oriented Machinist for its Machine Shop. The role suits someone with a strong work ethic, natural curiosity, and a desire to learn, with experience as a machinist, tool and die maker, or millwright. It offers the opportunity to perform highly skilled, custom work in a unique facility. The final job description and rate of pay will depend on qualifications and experience. The work involves operating machine tools and other machinery, taking precise measurements, selecting machining feeds and speeds, rigging and lifting loads, and interpreting mechanical drawings. The position is full-time, with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Regular shop hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., though shifts may vary with projects, priorities, and other factors. Work is primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor duties in all weather and seasons. The role includes regular contact with team members, customers, and vendors, and may involve exposure to very hot or cold temperatures, soot, dust, oil, paint, and other potentially hazardous substances. Work frequently takes place in areas of restricted movement and requires personal protective equipment. The position also requires extended periods of walking or standing and frequent lifting of more than 50 pounds. Employment may be subject to pre-employment and random background checks and drug testing.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Operate machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, boring mills, milling machines, and surface grinders.
Take precise measurements using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and similar tools.
Use common power and hand tools.
Operate machinery such as forklifts, telehandlers, and manlifts.
Select cutting feeds and speeds for machining.
Rig and lift loads using an overhead crane.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings.
