About The Position

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a Machinist to join a dynamic team in the Machine Shop of the Advanced Manufacturing & Design organization creating innovative solutions for the Savannah River Site, DOE complex and national security missions. The candidate will work in the Advanced Engineering R&D Machine Shop and perform work from work orders, drawings, design documents and procedures to perform machining activities based on skills and knowledge obtained from training and/or previous experience. Candidate should demonstrate necessary knowledge and skills to program, set up, and operate CNC equipment and CAD-CAM Systems, operate material handling equipment, and inspect and/or test parts and equipment to determine functional condition. Meet physical requirements for the essential duties, which include working around rotating equipment, being able to lift up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and twisting.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • US Citizenship is Legally Required for ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Performing tasks from work orders, drawings, design documents and procedures to perform machining activities based on skills and knowledge obtained from training and/or previous experience.
  • Obtaining guidance from supervision when the conditions warrant, but usually works under minimal supervision.
  • Attaining necessary knowledge and skills to program, set up, and operate CNC equipment and CAD-CAM Systems.
  • Operating material handling equipment.
  • Inspecting and/or testing parts and equipment to determine functional condition.
  • Assisting supervision and/or management with understanding of problems and suggest possible solutions.
  • Performing administrative functions such as timekeeping, data entry, and other administrative functions as needed to perform job.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements for the essential duties, which include working around rotating equipment, being able to lift to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and twisting.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision.
