About The Position

The Machinist role involves operating CNC multi-axis equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, or EDM to machine parts to specifications. The position requires calculating dimensions and tolerances, measuring and inspecting completed components, and setting up, adjusting, and operating machining centers. This role also includes studying sample parts and drawings to determine machining methods, selecting appropriate tools and materials, performing preventative maintenance on industrial machines, and collaborating with engineering and manufacturing personnel. Additionally, the machinist will fit and assemble parts, perform cleaning duties, and maintain 5s standards in the work area.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
2+ years of experience in industry with specific skills related to manual and CNC machining of multi axis machines.
Familiar with Fanuc Controls and has programming experience with multi-axis CNC equipment.
Working knowledge of GD&T is required.
Experience in computer skills to include Xcel, Word and email platforms.
Experience in electronic labor tracking databases.
Must be self-motivated and possess a demonstrated ability to handle multiple issues in a responsive and decisive manner.
Experience in quality systems. Prior experience working under formal environments such as NADCAP, ISO 9001, AS9100 or other quality programs.
Must be a detailed oriented, high energy, self-starter with the ability to drive the successful completion of projects within specified time frames.
Strong communication skills required both verbal and electronic.

Stooping/Crouching. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work area to another.
Pushing & Pulling.
Possibly lifting up to 50 lbs. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
Being able to wear required PPEs for specific tasks performed, such as respirators, Tyvek suit, gloves, face shield, etc.
Ability to cooperate and work with people.

Nice To Haves

CNC programming certification / documented training is strongly preferred.
Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix.
May require travel (air & ground) with short notice.

Responsibilities

Machine parts to specifications using CNC multi-axis equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders or EDM.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
Measure and visually inspect completed components in process to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments based on drawing or work instruction requirements.
Set-up, adjust and operate all of the manual and CNC machining centers in order to perform precision machining operations.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments accessories and materials onto machines.
Monitor speed and feed rates during the machining process to complete machining efficiently and within tolerances.
Study sample parts, drawings, or engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate product and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
Select the appropriate tools, machines and materials to be used in preparation for machining work based on work instruction.
Maintain industrial machines per the required daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance schedule.
Confer with engineering, technical lead, supervisor and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tooling.
Perform cleaning requirements at end of each shift.
Maintain and improve 5s standards for work-center.
Perform other duties as assigned.
