The C23 Machinist role involves setting up and operating standard machine tools and specialized equipment to manufacture, modify, and rework parts and assemblies as directed. This includes using various measuring and hand tools and performing related duties. Machinists will work from planning or written instructions, procedures, blueprints, and repair manuals, receiving assignments throughout the machine shop to operate diverse machine tools. The work may involve repetitive or single-piece lot production. The role requires assisting and being directed by higher-rated machinists and/or toolmakers in manufacturing machine (engine) components and assemblies, and in developing/implementing new processes. Machinists are responsible for the entire repair process, including benching, inspecting, steam/cleaning, and grit blasting hardware to ensure continuous movement. They must maintain associated paperwork, and may be required to disposition hardware, maintain/change routers, and instruct others.
