Perform machining operations in accordance with MTS Machine Shop procedures and work instructions. Requirements

  • One year of trade school or three years applicable experience in a machine shop environment.
  • Must understand and apply basic machining knowledge.
  • Understanding of machining tolerances and measuring equipment, tooling selection, machine setup and operation.
  • Knowledge of common machining symbols on MTS prints.
  • Understanding of material characteristics and proper machining techniques.
  • Ability to work from proven processes or work instructions to complete daily activities.
  • Knowledge of work holding and fixture use.
  • Ability to perform part inspection for tolerances, surface finish, hardness, and material.

Responsibilities

  • Performs machining operations on a variety of parts and is fully competent in performing set-ups in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance as required or apparent.
  • Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
  • Interprets MTS machining prints and meets print requirements.
  • Operates the Machine Shop routing system.
  • Inspects and verifies dimensions to required accuracy.
  • Provides constructive feedback to area supervisor on quality issues, trends and workload.
  • Exhibits willingness to help resolve issues regarding schedules and priorities.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to work overtime and to meet demands of other workstations.
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with all colleagues, including supervisors.
  • Displays ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Operates and maintains equipment in a safe manner.
  • Identifies safety hazards and involves appropriate parties to resolve.
  • Initiates creative and/or innovative ideas and demonstrates willingness to implement them.
  • Learns multiple disciplines within the machine shop, including but not limited to: CNC Lathe and Mill, Cylindrical Grinding, Surface Grinding and Manual Mill and Lathe.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Benefits

  • Compensation Information: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
