About The Position

This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Regional Rivers Repair Fleet, Marietta Repair Station, in Marietta, Ohio. The Machinist interprets and translates work orders, engineering drawings, and specifications, including those that may lack dimension tolerances or specify unusual fits and finishes. The role involves machining surfaces at unusual or compound angles and independently determining machining procedures, tools, attachments, and operation sequences. The Machinist receives work assignments through work orders or oral instructions, often accompanied by blueprints, sketches, drawings, models, or other specifications. The position applies conventional and non-conventional machine tools and trade techniques to perform precision machining and handwork, manufacture parts and equipment from varied materials, and machine castings, forgings, weldments, and other fabrications. The work requires advanced shop mathematics, including geometric and trigonometric calculations, and the ability to determine uncommon materials, dimensions, and tolerances. Work takes place indoors and outdoors, during the day and at night as emergencies require. It may involve work over water, near moving machinery, in confined spaces, tunnels, behind bulkheads, below water level, or in dewatered lock chambers and coffer boxes. The role requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment and carries exposure to a range of physical and environmental hazards.
