Machinist 3rd Shift - TDI

GE AerospaceVandalia, OH
Onsite

About The Position

TDI has been leading the design and manufacture of turbine-powered start systems for over 40 years and has been a designer of turbine air motors for over 60 years. The TDI site in Dayton, OH is part of Unison, a GE Aerospace Company. Unison is uniquely positioned to introduce the next-generation Air Turbine Starter for the CMF56-7B fleet. At the TDI site, Unison also produces Surface Coolers and Bellows to support the aerospace industry. This role operates all machines in the work center, potentially more than one at a time, and is responsible for powering up and homing machines. The position requires understanding coolant percentage mixtures and performing basic housekeeping of the cell (5S). The machinist will use various gages (calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, depth gages, bore gages, etc.), pneumatic tools, and hand tools to perform and inspect work. They must understand and use tool data (offsets, wear, etc.) to ensure acceptable parts and review, understand, and follow routers, procedures, specifications, and other instructions for completeness to perform operations. The role involves utilizing geometric tolerancing, ensuring all company paperwork is filled out accurately, and fully understanding blueprints. The machinist will read and understand inspection sheets, identify revision levels, and produce error-free products through in-process inspections. They will identify nonconforming hardware, meet production goals, be OQP certified, and cross-train. The position requires an understanding of safety and machining hazards, working under general direction with minimal coaching in a team environment, and performing other duties as assigned. Daily attendance at CCC meetings and program management in the DNC system are also expected. This includes changing tooling, identifying and using inserts, and setting up and calibrating inspection devices/gages (e.g., bore gages, bar gages, and height gages). The machinist is required to inspect and sign off on the first part. Strong attention to detail, compliance with all GE policies and the “Integrity: The Spirit and The Letter of Our Commitment” guide, and excellent customer service to co-workers, customers, and vendors are essential. The role embraces ambiguity, engages others in idea generation, works collaboratively, respects others, and actively participates and supports a team environment, keeping the team informed of work progress, timelines, and issues.
