About The Position

Grand Valley Manufacturing is seeking a skilled and experienced CNC Mill-Turn Operator to set-up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC mill-turn machines to manufacture components that are 12-24” in diameter, up to 10’ long, and weigh up to 6 tons. The ideal candidate has strong machining knowledge, can interpret engineering drawings, and is committed to producing high quality parts in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 Years of CNC Machining Experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of CNC Machine operations and machine set-up.
  • Able to read and understand G-Code programming.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience using common inspection tools (calipers, tape measure, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators).
  • Experience making tool offsets and minor program edits at the machine.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree in Machining preferred.
  • Experience operating multi-axis machines (4-axis, 5-axis, or mill-turn centers) is ideal.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Mazak, Siemens, Okuma, Haas, or Mitsubishi CNC Controls.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and routing instructions to determine dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Load and secure raw materials and ensure proper alignment.
  • Perform complex setups of large workpieces, selecting, installing, and adjusting the correct cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding as required.
  • Able to load programs and tools into machines, verify programs before production runs, and make minor changes to optimize cutting speeds, feed rates, and tool paths.
  • Monitor machine performance, sound, and efficiency to detect tool wear, vibration, defects, or out-of-tolerance machining conditions and adjust as required.
  • Verify that all machined details are produced in a manner that meets router specifications.
  • Correctly use micrometers and calipers to read measurements.
  • Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and quality personnel to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Perform safe lifting and maneuvering of parts (up to 6 tons) utilizing overhead cranes.
  • Maintain accurate job logs, routers, inspection, and other related documentation.
  • Monitor and maintain proper cleanliness of machine and work area, performing and documenting routine machine maintenance.
  • Train and mentor other machine operators when needed.
