This is a night shift position with 3x12 hour shifts, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM. The Machinist V will be responsible for operating machining centers, editing programs to increase productivity, and identifying programming errors during machine setup. This role requires the ability to work independently, train less experienced machinists, and identify fixturing and tooling needs. The position may involve creating complex CNC programs in Mastercam software, setting up machines for lower-level machinists, and assisting in peer training. The Machinist V will machine simple to complex parts from various materials, ensuring adherence to customer requirements, specifications, blueprints, and schematics. They must verify raw material, ensure safety mechanisms are functional, and use equipment such as drill presses, milling machines, and lathes, along with other applicable hand and power tools. Material handling, precise positioning of metal on equipment, and accurate measurements before cutting are essential. The role involves regulating machining through instrumentation knowledge, setting and adjusting controls, and meeting production deadlines. Post-manufacturing inspection to ensure quality standards and specifications are met is required, along with interpreting and applying MIL-SPEC standards. Safety is paramount, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean, safe work environment. The Machinist will troubleshoot machines and tools, perform emergency repairs, and use multi-axis CNC milling machines (Haas and Mazak) with knowledge of 4th and 5th axis operations. Additionally, the role includes assisting in estimating complex machined parts, conducting first-piece run verifications, and potentially leading toolbox talks related to manufacturing.
