About The Position

BAE Space and Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking a skilled machinist with advanced programming and inspection experience to join their team. This role offers a unique 3-day work week schedule in a high-precision machine shop, promoting a better work-life balance and contributing to a more sustainable future. The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit is crucial for efficient business and program execution, encompassing strategic investments, industrial operations, supply chain management, manufacturing, testing, and facilities management. The position is part-time but eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 4 years or more related experience. Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor’s or Master’s, may substitute for two years of related experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Mastercam programming for milling, create and modify Mastercam programs, including complex 2D and 3D toolpaths, using CAD models and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) inspection interpretation skills.
  • Experience operating multi-axis machines, specifically our DMG CMX-50 machine.
  • Deep understanding of feeds, speeds, cutter geometry, and material behavior.
  • Must be able to lift & carry 50 pounds.
  • An appreciation for demanding critically tolerance parts to fully support our ever-increasing customer base.
  • A customer driven mindset for their on-time delivery requirements.
  • Ability to work independently or with little supervision.
  • 12 years or more related experience job shop machining with metals A-Z and plastics.

Responsibilities

  • Program, setup and operate DMG CMX-50U.
  • Advanced proficiency in Mastercam programming for milling, create and modify Mastercam programs, including complex 2D and 3D toolpaths, using CAD models and engineering drawings.
  • Collaborate and work in a team environment and to work independently or with little supervision.
  • Review and interpret electronic build documents for machining requirements including thorough knowledge of GD&T engineering.
  • Design and fabricate basic to complex holding fixtures for standard and irregular configurations.
  • Use basic inspection equipment to check parts per ANSI Y14.5.
  • Maintain required electronic build records and process logs, records, and reports in accordance with company policies/procedures and government regulations.
  • May be utilized for working peer support relating to the machining and fabrication of complex hardware.
  • Assist in manufacturing process planning and estimating.
  • Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Conduct self-inspection and first article verification to ensure part compliance before release to our Quality Assurance team.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and quality personnel to refine processes and resolve manufacturing challenges.
