As a Machinist Trainee, you will learn and develop hands-on machining skills under the guidance of experienced machinists, supporting the production of precision components in a safety- and quality-focused environment. You’ll gain experience interpreting blueprints and work instructions, operating different types of machines, using precision measuring tools, and following approved manufacturing and inspection processes while building a strong foundation for a long-term career in machining.

Requirements

  • Completion or enrollment in a machinist or aerospace related program; or related machining experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (unassisted) for approximately 25% of the average work day.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform work requiring high accuracy and precision, consistently meeting quality and tolerance requirements.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of precision measuring instruments and hand tools, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and torque tools.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to perform shop-level calculations (fractions, decimals, percentages, etc.).
  • Must have flexibility to work day, evening and weekend shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of company instructions, internal processes, rework procedures, OEM manuals, and MSDS/SDS documentation, with the ability to apply them correctly on the job.
  • Experience using production management and internal control systems (e.g., work order tracking, inventory, or quality systems).

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets specification manuals, blueprints, templates and layouts to determine machining operation to be performed.
  • Computes dimensions and tolerances and measures and lays out work pieces.
  • Verifies dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges and micrometers. Troubleshoots, debugs and modifies to achieve expected performance.
  • Adjusts and sets up machine tools for use by machining tool operators.
  • Participates in continuous improvement of cell processes.
  • Cross trains in other complementary skills and seeks endorsements for those skills as needed to support production requirements.
  • Moves between production assignments that utilize multiple skills endorsements as needed to support production requirements.
  • Participates in the cross training of other technicians as needed to support production requirements.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.
