About The Position

This role is responsible for machining parts, fitting and assembling stamping dies from start to finish at the direction of the tool & die lead and manager. The machinist will also be responsible for sharpening punches, dies and other tooling used in stamping dies, as well as creating and building jigs, fixtures and tools as directed. Performing die repairs, scheduled PMs, and troubleshooting are also key responsibilities. The position requires setting up and performing manual machining operations on new and existing parts, maintaining a clean work area and machines, and complying with company safety policies. The role may require working outside of standard working hours as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years in a machine shop setting with heavy emphasis on conventional metal working machinery
  • Basic understanding of stamping dies, presses and feed systems
  • Must be able to setup manual mills, lathes, surface grinders etc. and operate them efficiently
  • Machine operations include but not limited to turning, facing, boring, tapping, milling, sawing, drilling etc.
  • Be able to layout, fit and modify parts to achieve required scope of work
  • Be able to read blueprints and understand tolerances
  • Will be asked to manufacture jigs/fixtures and or parts without a supplied print
  • Knowledge of common material properties such as cold roll steel, carbon steel, tool steels, aluminum, brass etc. and how to properly machine
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience in die building and troubleshooting
  • Experience in EDM, CNC machining is a plus
  • Experience in heat treating/tempering materials
  • Knowledge of sheet metal material properties and their behaviors during stamping/bending operations (e.g., galvanized mild steel, aluminum, powder coated mild steel)
  • Experience in pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Any outside certifications or training in the tool and die field
