About The Position

This is a full-time, on-site Machinist Technician position in Irvine, CA. The role involves setting up and operating complex conventional and numerically controlled machining centers to produce precision parts that meet tight tolerances. The Machinist Technician will directly support engineering, production planning, and quality teams by resolving process issues, improving setups, and contributing to lean initiatives. The position requires independent work with minimal supervision and collaboration with the shop team to meet production goals.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of industry-related machining experience in a high-technology manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to read and follow blueprints, complex drawings, and engineering specifications
  • Proficiency making and evaluating complex machine setups and troubleshooting machining problems
  • Working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Ability to perform precision inspection using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and surface plate techniques
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet the physical demands of standing, walking, and manual dexterity required for machine operation

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized or division-specific certifications (e.g., certified operator)
  • Experience using coordinate measuring machines (CMM)
  • Prior experience implementing lean manufacturing tools and methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Run multiple machines efficiently and perform simultaneous operations when required
  • Set up, adjust, and operate conventional and special-purpose machines for complex production work
  • Interpret blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, and verbal instructions
  • Interface with engineering to resolve drawing errors and suggest design or tooling improvements
  • Make complex setups including multiple workpiece stations and custom holding devices
  • Inspect finished parts using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and potentially CMM to ensure conformance
  • Perform statistical process control (SPC) and ensure equipment calibration and routine maintenance
  • Lead or contribute to lean initiatives and provide suggestions for process improvements
  • Train and mentor less experienced team members
