We are seeking a skilled Machinist/Millwright to support heavy industrial operations in New Orleans, LA by fabricating, repairing, and machining precision parts for critical equipment and assets. This role requires hands-on experience operating manual machining equipment and the ability to work from manual drawings, hand sketches, and other design specifications to produce high-quality components.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (technical or trade school preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience operating manual machining equipment in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience with manual lathes and milling machines
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
  • Proficiency with hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Solid understanding of machining principles, materials, and tooling
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in heavy industry (e.g., steel, oil & gas, power generation, or similar)
  • Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with equipment repair and maintenance processes
  • Basic knowledge of CNC machining (not required but beneficial)
  • Experience in maintenance, repair and custom fabrication

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including: LeBlond lathe, Standard Modern 1530 lathe, Vertical and horizontal milling machines, Drill presses, grinders, and other shop equipment
  • Machine, fabricate, modify and repair parts for industrial assets such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, shafts, and structural components
  • Interpret technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other measuring tools
  • Maintain tight tolerances and ensure finished parts meet specifications
  • Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and materials for each job
  • Perform equipment maintenance and ensure machines are in safe operating condition
  • Assist with equipment teardown, inspection, and rebuilds as needed
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment
  • Sustain and maintain organization of machine tooling by engaging with site expectations including the 5S Housekeeping philosophy
