About The Position

HF Sinclair in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Machinist / Pump Mechanic who will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining pumps, rotating equipment, and associated mechanical systems throughout the refinery. This position supports safe, reliable, and efficient refinery operations by applying advanced mechanical and machining skills to maintain critical equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to operate machine shop equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and maintenance documentation.
  • Knowledge of precision measurement and alignment techniques.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with computer-based maintenance systems.
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Required to work a flexible schedule, (e.g. overtime, weekends, callouts or holidays).
  • Standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and/or pulling up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 100 ft., ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver’s license and proof of insurance required, perceiving color differences, wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum three (3) years of industrial machinist, pump mechanic, or rotating equipment maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience in refining, petrochemical, power generation, mining, pipeline, or heavy industrial settings preferred.
  • Completion of a Machinist Apprenticeship Program, Journeyman certification, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience preferred.
  • Certifications in automotive, heavy equipment repairs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses, repairs, rebuilds, and installs centrifugal, positive displacement, reciprocating, specialty pumps and compressors.
  • Performs precision machining operations using lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Inspects and repairs shafts, sleeves, impellers, bearings, couplings, seals, and related rotating equipment components.
  • Performs equipment alignment utilizing dial indicators and laser alignment systems.
  • Conducts preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on rotating equipment.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, schematics, maintenance manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Uses precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators to verify tolerances.
  • Performs installation and replacement of bearings, mechanical seals, packing, and gaskets.
  • Supports refinery turnarounds, shutdowns, and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Documents maintenance activities within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Assists with troubleshooting equipment failures and identifying root causes.
  • Adheres to all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices in designated work areas.
  • Works collaboratively with Operations, Reliability, Engineering, and Maintenance personnel to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Participates in refinery emergency response activities as assigned.
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and/or call-out assignments.
  • Supports continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
