About The Position

This role involves operating machinery to produce quality parts in a timely manner, meeting standards set forth by Manufacturing Engineering and Quality. The position requires continuous visual concentration to develop and maintain tolerances, and the ability to ensure all characteristics generated are conforming through applicable inspection techniques. The machinist will perform setup and operation of equipment based on drawings and method sheets, and may be required to supplement this information with their own job knowledge. Minor maintenance on machines may be necessary. On a temporary basis, the machinist may be required to train operators on specific equipment they are qualified to use. Maintaining an orderly work area, adhering to environmental, health, and safety requirements, and participating in a team-based environment are also key aspects of this role. This includes active participation in daily team meetings, cooperating with others, practicing direct professional communication, and being open to new ideas. Accurate timekeeping and electronic record maintenance are also required.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Ability and willingness to use basic hand tools and measuring devices (i.e. - dial calipers, rulers, tape measures, protractors, micrometers, gauges, etc.) as required within department
Ability to lift/ push/ pull up to 35 lbs.
At least 18 years of age by the time of joining

Nice To Haves

1-2 years machine shop and/or prior aerospace engines machining experience
Ability to use computers and learn Microsoft Office
Education and/or training in machine shop operations
Understanding of CNC and manual machine operations
Basic programming knowledge to include reading editing programs
Experience in a self-directed team environment
Lean manufacturing knowledge

Responsibilities

Machine all types of metals
Generate and check part dimensions during various machining stages with complex measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, special purpose gauges, and scales
Achieve all required tolerances (down to .0005”) and finishes that will produce quality parts in a timely manner and for meeting standards as set forth by Manufacturing Engineering and Quality
Ensure all characteristics generated at designated operation are conforming through use of applicable inspection techniques
Perform setup and operation of equipment to drawings, method sheets, etc., but may be required to supplement this information with own job knowledge on occasion
May do minor maintenance on machines style
May be required on a temporary basis, to train operators to use certain equipment which the individual is qualified to
Responsible for keeping facilities, material and work area orderly exercising care in their use, maintaining good housekeeping practices
Must adhere to all environmental, health and safety requirements and all quality
Must actively participate in a team-based environment which includes, but not limited to the following: Active participation in daily team meetings and activities, cooperating and relating well with others, practicing direct professional communication with team members, and being open to new ideas from team members and considers opinions different from their own
