About The Position

The Machinist III sets up and operates CNC lathes and CNC mills, as well as manual equipment, with limited guidance. The role involves interpreting drawings and specifications, preparing machinery and tooling, monitoring machining operations, verifying machine settings and product performance, and supporting safe, continuous production. The machinist may also train new or existing machinists.

Requirements

High school diploma.
5–7 years of machining experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret corporate work standards, technical procedures, or government regulations.
Ability to apply basic math, algebra, and geometry concepts.
Advanced knowledge of CNC lathes, tool grinders, grinding wheels, manual lathes, and CNC mills.
Knowledge of measuring equipment, wrenches, general tools, and their use.
Knowledge of the machinability of various materials.
Ability to lift 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to understand dimensions, tolerances, operation sequences, and setup requirements; assistance may be needed.
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills, lathes, grinders, and other manual machines.
Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or machining outside tolerance, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
Run machines on a trial basis to verify machine-setting accuracy or programmed control data.
Participate in safety and continuous-improvement activities and processes needed to maintain production.
Conduct machining or operator training for new or existing machinists, as needed.
Verify machine-tool performance and component manufacturing before full automatic operation, with supervisory direction if necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
