About The Position

The Machinist III is an advanced-level machinist responsible for complex setups of stamping and setting presses. This role requires expert knowledge of Punch Press and manual machines, the ability to interpret complex drawings and GD&T, and a strong understanding of manufacturing processes. The Machinist III works with minimal supervision and contributes to process improvement, quality assurance, and production efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum five (5) years of machining experience, including advanced Punch Press setup and machining.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, machining math, trigonometry, and precision measurement.
  • Experience with punch press machining, complex fixturing, and tight tolerances.
  • Ability to interpret and troubleshoot.
  • Knowledge of various materials including steels, aluminum, hardened alloys, exotic metals, and plastics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, and operate Punch Presses and manual equipment to produce complex, tight-tolerance parts.
  • Lead complex machining setups, including fixture design recommendations and tool selection.
  • Read and interpret advanced engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions.
  • Perform first-article inspections and verify part conformance using advanced measurement tools (CMM, optical comparators, bore gauges, micrometers, etc.).
  • Set-up punch presses by installing metal stamping dies and setting feeds
  • Feeding material into the machine
  • Product inspection using specific measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers and pin gauges to ensure the product meets customer’s specifications
  • Performs machine maintenance and safety checks daily
  • Mechanical aptitude and use of basic hand tools
  • Diagnose machining issues such as chatter, tool wear, thermal expansion, and implement corrective actions.
  • Optimize machining processes to reduce cycle time, improve tool life, and enhance part quality.
  • Train and mentor Machinist I and II personnel in machining techniques and best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on manufacturability, tooling needs, and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records including job travelers, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety guidelines, company policies, and ISO/AS quality standards.
