About The Position

The Machinist II at TSI, with minimal technical supervision, performs machining and fitting of all kinds of parts, tools, and machines in support of production operations or job shop machining for engineering prototypes. The level II Machinist is able to lay out work from blueprints, sketches and written specifications to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. Sets up and operates all available machine tools and performs tool adjustments for various types of manual machine shop equipment. This position may on occasion have to communicate directly with engineering to understand the purpose of a part assembly. The Machinist II checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances and fits and assembles where necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
  • 2-year graduate of Voc-tech machinist and/or 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Minimum three years Machinist experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically in a high technology environment.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up, adjusts, operate and program a variety of machines, which will include manual mills, turret lathes and CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Follow work practices which are geared toward continuous quality improvement and best practices.
  • Assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment.
  • Works from complex blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions.
  • Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances.
  • May identify and repair machine malfunctions.
  • Work as an effective team member in the department.
  • Participate in cross-training going on in the department.
  • Serve as a technical resource for less experienced machinists in the department.
  • Work in conjunction with Production Supervisor (Machine Shop) to establish annual individual goals and objectives in alignment with department goals.
  • Minimal supervision to set up and operate all available machine tools to perform various machine operations on parts that are made from various materials.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe work area and shop at all times.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned
