About The Position

The Machinist II responsibilities include supporting the business unit by completing mold maintenance and repairs, fabricating fixtures, tooling, automation components, machinery, and performing production machining.

Requirements

  • Ability to set up and operate 3 axis mills as well as manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, saws, and most common machine shop equipment
  • Experience assembling and disassembling injection molds required
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to assemble molds and tooling with close tolerances and fits
  • Proficiency in machining principles and practices
  • Ability to interpret and work from CAD models, blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions
  • Ability to use CAM programs to generate and edit NC code
  • Ability to use judgement to identify potential safety hazards
  • Proficient in the safe preparation, operation, and cleaning of machining equipment for the successful completion of preventive maintenance
  • Attention to Detail – Ensure accuracy in work product, documentation, and processes to maintain high standards
  • Adaptable – Flexible to adapt to new skills, tasks, technologies, processes, and project requirements
  • Interpersonal Skills – Build strong relationships with others to promote a supportive and engaged workplace
  • Communication – Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers across departments to support customer needs
  • This position requires 20% clerical, estimating and planning, and 80% mold maintenance and repair and machining components
  • Work is primarily performed in the toolroom or mold maintenance area where noise levels may be moderate or high and hearing protection may have to be worn
  • Work requires use of grease, oils, and cleaning agents to clean and maintain molds
  • Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hand protection will have to be worn
  • There is a potential for lifting/moving weights up to 75 lbs manually
  • The occasional physical demands of the position include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and eye/hand/food coordination
  • May stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Minimum of three years related experience and/or training in machining
  • Experience in CNC Programming (Mastercam preferred) and manual machining

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with sinker and wire EDM a plus
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Suite, Solid Works, CAD programs a plus

Responsibilities

  • Repairing and maintaining molds and machinery under the guidance of a senior department employee
  • Fabricating close tolerance components for tools, machines, and fixtures to support production, assembly, automation, engineering, and quality control
  • Fabricate prototype parts for engineering and operations evaluation
  • Work with and assist the Moldmakers with complex injection mold component fabrication as required
