To set up and operate thread grinding and/or milling machines to rough, finish and semi-finish rotors, shafts, grooves, gears, worms, splines, and screw gears to size, index, form and finish as required. This role involves operating multiple machines, including shaft lathes, thread mills, NCGs, and thread grinders, within a rotor cell to meet daily throughput demands. The machinist will be responsible for checking rotor forms, making necessary adjustments, and operating NC controlled machines. Precision measuring instruments will be used to maintain dimensions, contour, close tolerances, and surface finish. Setup of roughing, finishing, and semi-finishing machines, including gear assembly, work driver and center assembly, and steady rest jaw positioning, is also a key responsibility. The role requires determining cutter and work rotation, selecting cutter speeds, and making trial cuts to achieve correct thread size and form. The machinist will also mill threads, grooves, gears, worms, and splines in various materials, utilize idle time for miscellaneous tasks, and correct machining difficulties independently. Removing burrs, marking, identifying, preserving, and protecting parts, as well as making master rotors, are also part of the duties. The position requires consistent production of quality and quantity work and performing other related duties as needed.
