The Machinist I fabricates new and replacement parts for durable medical equipment using appropriate machinery, making adjustments to produce parts within specifications. The role includes unloading received materials, following standard operating procedures, documenting daily work and maintenance, and applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The machinist operates machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, shapers, and grinders, and reads machining instructions, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensions, operations, setups, and tooling. The machinist selects cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools according to instructions or knowledge of metal properties. The position ensures production efficiency and quality by inspecting parts for accuracy and conformance to specifications using instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and fixed or telescoping gauges. It also involves preventive equipment maintenance, inventory maintenance, and adherence to ISO and FDA regulations. The machinist maintains a safe, clean work area, attends safety training, and turns off and locks out equipment when it is not in use. Other related duties may be assigned to support the company’s overall success. There are no supervisory responsibilities. Work takes place in normal manufacturing-environment conditions. Machinery operation requires safety equipment, including eye protection, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats; loose-fitting clothing and jewelry are not permitted. The role requires frequent standing and handling materials, and may involve lifting materials and products up to 75 pounds.
