About The Position

The Machinist 1 role is an entry-level position designed for individuals looking to develop their skills in basic and advanced machining processes. Working under direct supervision, this role offers the opportunity to learn precision machining in a dynamic manufacturing environment, with the potential to grow into more complex operations. This position adheres to core competencies including communication, teamwork, achieving results, continuous improvement, and sound judgment. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or 1 year of relevant experience
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in standard English
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness and ability to learn shop geometry and trigonometry

  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Tolerance for a manufacturing environment (noise, machinery, oil/coolant exposure)
  • Occasional bending, twisting, and reaching during machine operation or maintenance tasks

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables, or study sample parts to determine machining operations and plan the best sequence.
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances; measure and lay out workpieces.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools, including CNC machines, to perform precision machining (e.g., sawing, turning, milling, boring, plaining, drilling, precision grinding).
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
  • Verify product dimensions using precision measuring instruments.
  • Set up and program machine tools for operator use.
  • Learn and apply machinability concepts of various metals.
  • Change, set, and adjust precision tools as required.
  • Load and delete programs in the machine computer.
  • Make minor feed and speed adjustments.
  • Grind cutting tools and drills (excluding special-purpose tools).
  • Maintain specific tolerances and perform accurate dimensional work.
  • Assist in checking parts using specified gauges or fixtures.
  • Identify improper machine function and dimensional issues.
  • Follow all safety rules and precautions.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment to support inspection accuracy, ensure compliance with aerospace cleanliness standards, and promote overall workplace efficiency.
