Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Commitment to working safely and understand all safety procedures.
  • Deviations in routine are handled according to operating procedures and/or work instructions.
  • Tooling Repair Technician is responsible for ensuring that repairs meet the requirements of the Tooling blueprint.
  • Schedules repairs to meet daily departmental production goals as well as coordinating similar repairs to minimize turnaround time.
  • Must be reliable and dependable.
  • Communicate safety, quality, product issues with Pressing Supervisor and team members across shifts.
  • Assists in controlling access to the tool room by unauthorized persons.
  • Utilizes mathematical knowledge including Triginometry to troubleshoot and repair tooling issues with Press Dies, Grinding Anvils and Prisms and other tooling and fixtures using blueprints, schematics and overlays.
  • Schedules repairs by urgency of production need.
  • Selects the appropriate machinery for repairs and follows all safety policies and procedures associated with that equipment.
  • Provides Operator Level PM on the Tool Room equipment and functionally tests all repairs before releasing the Tools/Fixtures to production.
  • Utilizes blueprints and schematics to setup the machines for a repair.
  • Performs detailed inspection of tooling to troubleshoot concerns with the finished products.
  • Utilizes Scopes, Optical Comparators, and Keyence measuring devices to aid in troubleshooting and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates tooling repair including press die repair, reconditioning, and regular maintenance according to blueprints, schematics and Kennametal guidelines.
  • Utilizes computer controlled machining lathes, grinders, polishers, and EDMs to resurface and repair press dies and other fixtures.
  • Repairs all tooling and fixtures as needed to ensure maximum up time.
  • Follows repair schedule as needed by production and delivery requirements and communicates regularly with the Pressing Supervisor to ensure that the department has the tooling available that is needed to meet SQDCP metrics for the area.
  • Coordinates outsourcing of tooling repair that cannot be repaired in house.
  • Follows all safety guidelines for tooling repair equipment and utilizes Lock Out Tag Out procedures when necessary to ensure safe setup of the equipment.
