About The Position

Oerlikon is seeking a temporary Machinist C for its Westbury, NY facility. The role involves manufacturing parts and components for a wide variety of systems through manual and computerized machining operations. The machinist works from blueprints and instructions, operates machine tools, performs bench operations, and uses measuring and gauging devices to ensure parts meet specifications. The position also includes routine machine maintenance and maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area.

Requirements

• Knowledge equivalent to high school, with six months to one year of technical and apprenticeship training.
• One to three years of experience performing machining or sheet metal operations.
• Ability to use and understand shop mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Machine and fabricate standardized parts and assemblies from blueprints and specific instructions.
• Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses using available jigs and fixtures; adjust feeds and speeds to meet specified tolerances.
• Perform bench operations on machine parts using hand tools such as scrapers, files, and stones.
• Use machine-shop measuring and gauging devices to align or machine metal and plastic parts to required specifications.
• Operate and maintain machines for optimal performance, following the maintenance schedule (TPM).
• Keep tools and the work area safe, clean, and orderly, following 5S routines.
• Use prescribed personal protective equipment and follow applicable environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
• Perform other duties as required.
