About The Position

This role involves carrying out the machining and fitting of metal parts, tools, and machines with minimal supervision. The machinist will interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to perform their work. This includes setting up and operating various machines and machine tools, performing progressive machining operations on parts requiring close tolerances or unusual specifications, and determining operation sequences. The position requires skillful use of machinists' hand tools, knowledge of metal machinability for proper tooling selection and application, and experience in machine shop practices. Operation of CNC machines, including a working knowledge of programming fundamentals, is also required. All work must consistently meet specifications. The role also includes monitoring and changing coolant as needed, performing daily/weekly TPM tasks accurately, and undertaking other duties as assigned by a supervisor within the same salary grade or below.

Requirements

  • In pursuit (full-time or part-time student) of a two (2) year Vocational/Accredited school certificate/degree.
  • Requires knowledge of machining practices and techniques, basic mechanical principles and shop mathematics, setups, tooling applications, operating methods, and machinability of materials.
  • Must be a sole US citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Once two (2) year certificate or degree is awarded plus four thousand (4,000) in house machining hours, will move to Machinist A.

Responsibilities

  • Carry through to completion with minimum supervision the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to properly layout and perform work.
  • Set up and operate all available machines and machine tools.
  • Perform progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements.
  • Determine operation sequences.
  • Use skillfully all machinists’ hand tools and determine machinability of metals to determine proper tooling selection (geometry) and application (fields, speeds).
  • Operate CNC machines including working knowledge of programming fundamentals.
  • Monitor coolant quality and change coolant as required.
  • Perform daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency.
  • Performs other duties as designated by supervisor in the same salary grade or below.
