This position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. The Machinist B interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines the sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup and arrangement. They work with a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments, make shop computations, and fit and put together precision parts. This role also determines material, parts, and equipment required. The Machinist B fabricates piece parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications through the use of required machine tools and inspects piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements. They set up and operate machine tools and perform other related duties as assigned. This role requires the ability to run machine shop equipment such as lathes, CNC, milling machines, and precision grinders to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Additionally, the Machinist B uses, adjusts, cleans, and stores the tools, machinery, and equipment used, and keeps records and reports of the use of equipment.
