Reporting to the Journeyman Machinist, the Apprentice Machinist plays a key supporting role in the machining and manufacturing process while developing the technical skills and knowledge required to become a qualified machinist. Working under the guidance and mentorship of experienced machinists, the apprentice assists with the safe and efficient setup, operation, and maintenance of machine tools to manufacture various components.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general safety practices
  • General knowledge of basic tools and equipment
  • Physically fit to lift items weighing up to 20 kg.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination skills
  • Measurement skills and measuring tools experience
  • Math and computer skills
  • Eye for detail and precision
  • Current Machinist Apprenticeship in progress
  • High school diploma

Nice To Haves

  • Previous machine shop experience is an asset
  • Crane & Rigging experience or certification is an asset
  • Milling knowledge and experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assists machinists
  • Reads and interprets work orders
  • Follows directions given on work orders and by co-workers
  • Transports raw materials and finished metal products manually, using hoists or other devices
  • Sorts metal sheets and parts, scrap metal and other materials
  • Loads and unloads metal parts from fixtures and moves parts using hand truck or dolly
  • Grinds and deburrs sharp edges from metal parts using hand and power tools
  • Operates Fork Lifts, jib and overhead cranes
  • Performs other duties as required
