Requirements

  • Mechanically inclined with common hand tools (tape measure, hand and power tools, saw, etc.)
  • Basic math and geometry
  • Ability to work effectively with all personality types
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Self-directed and can work independently
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Preventative maintenance of equipment
  • Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery
  • Determine reference points, machine cutting paths or hole locations, and compute angular, and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures
  • Determine the sequence of machine operations, and select the proper cutting tools needed to machine workpieces into the desired shapes
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerations or machining components
  • Learn machine set-ups, adjusting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut, to machined parts to specifications set forth in designs, engineering orders, etc
  • Knowledge of G&M code
  • Assist with the positioning of chain falls, hoist, blocks, rope, jacks, chains, and rigging as directed by the rigger
  • Assist in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved as directed by the rigger
  • Basic verbal and hand signals to applicable equipment in use
  • Attaching rigging to a load based upon a pre-planned rigging method
  • Set up or operate metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, welding, or cutting equipment
  • Stick (arc) welding
  • Torch cutting
  • Blueprint reading
  • Lock-out Tag-out
  • Fall protection confined space entrant
  • Confined space attendant/supervisor
  • Chauffeurs License & DOT Med Card
  • Forklift Operation – Material handling up to 5000# (Preferred)
  • Trailer loading and securing of material & equipment
  • Precision measuring equipment (ID/OD micrometers, calipers, dial indicators – Preferred)
  • Overhead crane certified & qualified (NCCER/NCCCO- Preferred)
  • Manual Bridgeport (Preferred)
  • Drill press (Preferred)
  • Grinders (Preferred)
  • Saws (Preferred)
  • Ability to run CNC equipment (Preferred)
  • Mastercam (Preferred)
  • Standard industrial tools (Pliers, wrenches, drills, etc.)
  • Hytroc (Preferred)
  • Mag drill (Preferred)
  • Mag drill (Preferred)
  • Hydraulic jacks (Preferred)
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
  • Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment Utilize and understand the constraints of chains, synthetic, metal mesh, and wire rope slings.
  • Use & recognize rigging hardware including hooks, shackles, wire rope clips, clamps, eye bolts, softeners and tag lines Identifies common load configurations & positioning
  • Rigger 1 training – trains on above
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
  • Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
  • Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in cold/hot environments.
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Support other apprentices, machinists, and lead machinists on various projects
  • Follow instructions from foreman and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently
  • Keep the job site clean and well-organized
  • Handle the loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment
  • Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards
  • Fuel and wash department vehicles
