As an Machinist (Apprentice) you will assure that dsm-firmenich products are of consistent and high quality by producing components, assemblies, and maintaining company tooling, and fixtures in a machine shop environment. Requirements

  • High School GED or equivalent; completion of formal machinist journeyman program or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in the machinist or tool and die field, in a related area.
  • Demonstrate ability to work safely.
  • Requires rudimental working knowledge of job/position responsibilities, procedures and practices in the machining trades profession.
  • Through guidance and mentorship, learns to deal with problems, that must be broken down, into manageable pieces and develops the ability to see relationships between problem components Utilize knowledge, experience and available resources to find solutions. May participate in development of improvements and help implement change.
  • Interacts with colleagues and others, employing a communication style, appropriate to the person or audience. Seeks additional information to enhance understanding. May initiate and compose various types of business communication.
  • Contributes in formulating recommendations on routine issues.
  • Seeks opportunities and with guidance, sets goals for own development. Identifies and learns from mentors/developmental advisors.
  • Established departmental methods are followed with specific deadlines and schedules set by supervisor. Escalates obstacles to completing work and more complex issues.

  • Willingness to enroll or current participation in formal apprentice program a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture components for production and pro-type devices, fixtures, molds etc., while maintaining and holding the tight tolerances with this type of work. Such tolerances may be in the tenths of thousands of an inch.
  • Work independently, with direction from the Shop Operations Supervisor or Model Shop Manager.
  • Machine Shop environment where appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn.
  • Works with R&D, Engineering and other dsm-firmenich groups as assigned.
