About The Position

This role involves performing machine set-ups on various machines including manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for production and engineering parts. The Machinist 2 will also perform typical machine shop operations to support the assembly floor, maintain a clean and safe work area, and perform preventative maintenance on machines. A thorough understanding of job orders, standard measuring tools, machine fixturing, tooling, CNC programming, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances, machine safety, and lubrication is expected. This position also includes training incoming Operators and Set Up Technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 5+ years’ hands-on experience in CNC machining environments
  • Strong mathematical aptitude
  • Proficient in using hand-held measuring tools
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
  • Ability to assist other departments as necessary with management approval
  • Attendance & Punctuality: Arrives at workstation ready to begin work at the start of the shift and remains on the job until the end of the work period. Punctual for all appointments. In designated areas, remains on duty until a replacement is present.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of the following elements is expected: Job orders. Standard measuring tools including, but not limited to, Micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), Calipers, Bore Gages, Protractors, Height Gages, Micro-Height Gages, Molds, Optical Comparator and Depth Gages.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming/languages and knowledge of how to create and edit programs.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.
  • Machine Safety.
  • Machine lubrication (follow operation manual specifications).

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all engineering instruction, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures.
  • Perform machine set ups on manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types including production and/or engineering parts with light assistance.
  • Performs typical machine shop operations to support the assembly floor.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required per the P.M. charts.
  • Visual inspection of machine for damage or wear.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs.
  • Train all incoming Operators and Set Up Technicians.
  • Verify gage calibration.
  • Machine fixturing for all set ups.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
