About The Position

We are looking for a talented Machining Engineer - Senior - Weekend Night Shift (On-Site) to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Seymour, IN. In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: Plan, design, and implement machining processes and equipment that improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce setup time, and support production goals. Identify tooling, equipment, and process needs to enable smooth changeovers while meeting product specifications and quality standards. Partner with engineering teams to identify product or performance issues and recommend practical solutions or enhancements to improve manufacturability. Design, develop, and analyze technical products and manufacturing systems that support safe, reliable, and scalable operations. Conduct equipment engineering design evaluations, document findings, and recommend design or process changes to improve quality, capability, and performance. Drive improvements in equipment availability and throughput by applying continuous improvement tools and collaborating across functions. Support operational excellence by standardizing processes and leveraging data to optimize equipment capability and utilization. Coach and mentor less experienced team members, strengthening technical capability and supporting knowledge transfer within the organization.

Requirements

  • Strong manufacturing and machining expertise to interpret drawings, select materials and tooling, program machines, and implement equipment and process changes that improve quality, cost, and operational performance.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and compliance by applying machine guarding standards, dimensional metrology, and safe work practices to create a reliable, injury‑free manufacturing environment.
  • Process discipline and technical rigor to design measurement systems, document standardized manufacturing procedures, and ensure consistent execution across equipment, processes, and stakeholders.
  • Effective collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills to work cross‑functionally, leverage diverse perspectives, make sound decisions, and drive continuous improvement results.
  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical leadership and hands‑on support for SMC CNC machining operations during weekend nightshift, ensuring safe, stable, and efficient production aligned to plant KPIs across safety, quality, delivery, cost, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure reliable operation of CNC machining lines by monitoring OEE, cycle times, and line balance; implementing tooling, fixture, and process improvements to enhance performance and availability.
  • Deliver rapid technical problem resolution for machining and production interruptions, leading structured problem‑solving activities and supporting quality containment, rework, and compliance with QMS, calibration, and traceability standards.
  • Champion safety, health, and environmental excellence through proactive risk identification, compliance with LOTO, PPE, and machine guarding standards, and promotion of near‑miss reporting, JSAs, and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical coaching, guidance, and support to operators, technicians, and less‑experienced engineers; may oversee exempt employees, hourly associates, student workers, or interns during shift operations.
  • Drive cost, productivity, and machining optimization initiatives through review and improvement of tooling, cutting data, CNC programs, consumables, and machining processes; support approved cost‑reduction efforts and productivity projects.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), engineering changes, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring robust machining capability and readiness for production.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and HSE teams; lead small cross‑functional teams, communicate effectively across all organizational levels, and support customer visits, audits, and plant tours.
  • Apply strong hands‑on CNC machining expertise, including cutting tools, cutting data, tool life optimization, blueprint and GD&T interpretation, precision metrology, fixture setup, and tooling management.
  • Demonstrate CNC programming and operational proficiency, including G‑code and M‑code; experience with Siemens 840D SL experience preferred.
