About The Position

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining production machinery to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing. This role involves setting up equipment, making adjustments as needed, performing basic troubleshooting, and following all safety and quality standards to meet production targets.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience operating extrusion, converting, packaging, or other manufacturing equipment in a production environment
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic operator-level troubleshooting
  • Ability to read gauges, digital displays, machine settings, and production instructions
  • Ability to complete basic production records by hand or in the applicable system
  • Able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Able to stand for extended periods and perform frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and manual handling of materials
  • Able to communicate in English sufficiently to follow instructions, complete records, and report issues

Nice To Haves

  • Plastic extrusion experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Set up, start, operate, and monitor extrusion and downstream equipment used to produce plastic straws.
  • Load resin, colour, and other required materials into hoppers and confirm the correct material is used for each run.
  • Adjust temperatures, feed, speed, pressure-related settings, and other line controls to maintain stable operation and product quality.
  • Monitor product continuously and correct issues such as defects, variation in size or cut, colour inconsistency, jams, or unstable line conditions.
  • Perform required quality checks and remove off-spec product.
  • Complete line changeovers, including material, colour, settings, tooling, and related line components.
  • Thread product through the line and monitor guides, rollers, cutters, and take-off sections.
  • Clear minor jams and blockages safely and restart the line.
  • Perform basic operator-level troubleshooting and report ongoing or mechanical issues to the Supervisor, Lead Hand, Quality, or Maintenance.
  • Carry out basic routine operator maintenance, cleaning, and minor adjustments as assigned.
  • Keep the work area, hoppers, panels, guards, and surrounding floor clean and production-ready.
  • Record production, downtime, scrap, and quality information on required forms or in the system.
  • Support packaging and other production duties as assigned.
