About The Position

Janicki Industries is an innovative, family-owned aerospace company located at the foot of the Cascades. We focus on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for companies in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. We are looking for a Tool Room Manager to join our growing team. This position is located on-site in Sedro-Woolley and Hamilton, Washington State. The Machine Shop Tool Room Manager is responsible for overseeing all tool room operations of the Machine Shop. This role ensures that tools, materials, and equipment are available, maintained, and managed efficiently to support production schedules and operational needs. The Tool Room Manager serves as the primary owner of tool room processes, driving accuracy, organization, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required)
  • Must agree to enter a Continuous Evaluation program
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Three or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a machine shop or tool room setting
  • Strong knowledge of machine tools, mills, cutting tools, and industrial equipment
  • Demonstrated experience with tool inventory management systems and data‑driven decision‑making
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to lift and carry tools and materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be safety‑oriented with a solid understanding of shop safety practices
  • Ability to operate a forklift or other material handling equipment (certification may be required)
  • Must be willing and able to obtain government‑issued security clearance
  • Must pass a preemployment drug test prior to starting employment

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of tool inventory, including forecasting, procurement requests, stocking levels, and replenishment strategies
  • Establish and maintain min/max levels based on production schedules, historical usage, and upcoming programs
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and vendors to ensure timely availability of tools, consumables, and specialty equipment
  • Monitor consumption trends and implement cost‑saving strategies, including identifying substitute cutters or optimizing tool usage
  • Oversee inspection standards for all tools and equipment entering or returning to the room
  • Coordinate tool maintenance, sharpening, calibration, and repair activities with internal teams and external vendors
  • Ensure damaged or worn tools are removed from circulation and replaced promptly
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tool reliability and reduce downtime
  • Manage the issuance and return of tools, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient tool room environment that supports 5S and lean manufacturing principles
  • Collaborate with machine operators, supervisors, and planners to ensure tool availability aligns with production needs
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for tool‑related questions, troubleshooting, and problem resolution
  • Utilize inventory management systems (JIMMS, SQL, VMI, Zoller, or similar) to track inventory, build and set tools, and maintain accurate records
  • Generate reports on tool usage, consumption, shortages, and cost trends to support operational decision‑making
  • Support integration of tool management software across departments and ensure data accuracy and consistency
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, company policies, and ITAR/EAR requirements
  • Lead safety initiatives within the tool room, including audits, corrective actions, and training for tool room users
  • Promote and uphold 5S standards and drive improvements in organization, workflow, and efficiency
  • Participate in cross‑functional improvement projects related to tooling, machining efficiency, and material flow
  • Communicate effectively with machine operators, supervisors, engineering, and production teams to anticipate tool needs and resolve issues
  • Facilitate conflict resolution related to tool availability, tool condition, or workflow disruptions
  • Provide guidance and support to Tool Crib Technicians and other personnel who interact with the tool room, even without formal supervisory authority
  • Represent the tool crib function in meetings, planning sessions, and process improvement initiatives
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Cell Manager
